GEIGER MultiDisc® and GEIGER® Fish Protection Technologies in Action
The Moorburg plant will secure an economic and environmentally-compatible supply of electricity (a gross output of 2 x 820 Megawatt) and district heating (an output of 2 x 120 Megawatt) in the region on a long term basis.
To guarantee an environmentally-friendly water intake, a GEIGER®-Fish Repelling System prevents fish lingering around the water intake area. Coarse screens (GEIGER® Cable-Operated Grab Cleaners and mesh screens (GEIGER MultiDisc®) serve as a mechanical barrier to the fish ,which are still extracted together with the water. The cooling water is withdrawn from the Elbe with such a low velocity that even small fish are able to swim against the current. These fish are retrieved/extracted from the cooling water by an innovative Fish Return System and returned back to the river via a flushing pipe. Click here to see the whole virtual tour.
